I recently had a chat with the head of the finance and accounts department of a company and he shared some of the issues that his department was facing despite automating the accounts payable process. They were experiencing delays in approving invoices, which was affecting the overall productivity of the department, along with some service-level agreement breaches.
The Obstacles
When it comes to accounts payable, there are a number of purchase orders and invoice approval requests that have to be managed and approved on time, every day. All these requests must be approved by the head of the finance and accounting department. It is a document-intensive function with opaque processes that make it difficult for managers to gain visibility.
Due to several commitments, the department head was unable to devote time to routine tasks and was always swamped with multiple requests. That is when he decided to reach out to our mobility center of excellence and we knew exactly what his department was lacking.
Missing Piece of the Puzzle
The company required an easy-to-use, efficient monitoring and tracking mechanism to enable faster processing of invoices while avoiding payment delays and higher penalties. We recommended a mobile application to allow real-time monitoring, while ensuring rapid delivery of information and faster decision making.
